  • There’s a guy working at Quidni named Dustin Legacy, which is awesome, though you would immediately call it out as stupid if a character were named so in a Michael Bay movie. My girlfriend and I have fond memories of Quidni, memories we’re unlikely to repeat despite the desire and attempts to do so. Last fall, she and I were half-way into a wine tour through Okanagan wine country. Over a week, we visited 60 wineries and returned with 120 bottles. Quidni was probably the newest arrival in the Naramata region during that time. It’s certainly small, perched a few feet off the main road, not unlike Black Widow down the street. The building is nothing terribly special save for its view of cliffs and hills beyond. It boasts one of those fashionable, expensive doors you see in magazines that are all the rage with wineries. When we visited it initially, we found the environment simple, intimate, yet effective. The tasting was casual and successful. The girlfriend loved the WhyNotRed and I the Viognier. Later that year, after finishing those bottles, I ordered a box of the WhyNotRed for Christmas. Only a few weeks ago, during a second wine trip across the same region accompanied by friends virgin to Naramata, we decided Quidni was to be one the few locations we would repeat. Unfortunately, the doors were locked, and no one was there to process a guaranteed sale. We only realized later that Quidni had decided to drop their open-door policy and only entertain customers by appointment. Further, both the WhyNotRed and the Viognier are no longer available, leaving just the WhyNotWhite, the Riesling, the Rose, and the Cicero Aromatic remaining in their selection. Given I had been contacted regarding investment opportunities in the business last year, I’m forced to wonder what the potential outlook for Quidni will be. We enjoyed our experience, and we loved their wine, two aspects of the business oddly denied to us. With all the new wineries opening in the Okanagan, and Naramata specifically, I never considered the possibility that some would not do as well as others. I don’t see “for sale” signs outside any of them, no towering architectural monuments to viticulture abandoned by the roadside gathering cobwebs and historical irrelevance. I hope Quidni opens their doors again and offers their wares to casual shoppers. Their roadside position feels wasted, their open parking a taunt. On our second trip, another new winery had opened not thirty feet away, Ledlin. Their doors were open, their view available to the public. We talked, we purchased, and we moved onto Black Widow. Quidni was a great winery to visit in the region, and I hope it will be so again.

  • The service is top notch every visit and our visiting guests are always thrilled and buy wine when we take them to visit your winery. I especially love several of your whites. Some of my favs are your Why Not, the Viognier and the Gewurztraminer. Several of our friends also love your Reds.
